What is a clutch?
A clutch is a vital component of any car and is essential for your car to operate on the road. The engine of your car is responsible for providing motion, and the clutch is responsible for managing this motion as it is sent to the wheels of your car.
In other words, the clutch allows the transfer of power between the engine and the wheels to be stopped while gear changes are being made or the car is stationary; without it, the engine would have to stop and start constantly to achieve the same result.
What is Clutch Fluid?
Its common for cars to have clutches that work hydraulically. This means that when the clutch pedal is pressed clutch fluid transfers the pressure from the pedal through to the clutch and disengages the power transmission.
For this reason, a leak in the clutch system can result in a number of problems, making it important to inspect regularly for any leakages.

- Your car is slipping out of gear for no reason
- You notice a burning rubber or burnt toast smell in your car, or smoke from under your vehicle
- There is an abrupt or sticky gear operation
- Your car’s clutch is not disengaging fully, or your clutch is shuddering or sticking
If your clutch is demonstrating any of the above issues it could mean a number of faults. As clutch issues can often be difficult to diagnose with just symptoms because other issues can often have the same identifiers.
